Reading the title you are thinking to yourself, who deletes bookmarks accidentally? It happens more than you think, unfortunately. If you use a Mac and have found that you deleted bookmarks on the Chrome browser unintentionally, then this article will help you out.

Deleting of bookmarks happens most of the time when a person is just trying to reorganize their bookmarks folders. Deleting the Bookmarks bar on the top of your screen will also delete the bookmarks from your saved bookmarks folder. This is not what most people intend to have happen.

This article is geared for Mac users because the internet is already flooded with tutorials for Windows users. When Mac users go to search for tutorials, it can bring nothing but panic and fear that there is no option or them. Luckily, this is not reality. There are ways to do things in a Mac; you just sometimes have to use trial and error.

So, how do you restore bookmarks in Chrome with a Mac?

First, you need to open your “Finder” and then go to the Macintosh HD. Click on users, then your username, library, application support, Google, Chrome, and finally select default(If you have more than one profile on you computer see Mike’s Comment below).

You will see the options of bookmarks and bookmarks.bak as the files available. You will then want to copy the bookmarks, rename the file, and save it as something you will remember on the desktop. You put it on the desktop so it is easy to find. You will want to make sure you put bookmarks somewhere in the name so you can find the right file faster. Then go back to the folder and delete the original bookmarks file.

Now for the important step, go to the bookmarks.bak file and rename it to “bookmarks.” Make sure you delete the extension .bak. This is making your backup copy of the bookmarks as the original bookmarks folder. Your computer will automatically make a new .bak file.

Now you need to close finder and restart your Chrome window. When it opens, take a look at your bookmarks and you should see all of your original bookmarks again.

Most things on computers are not permanent changes but they can be difficult to reverse. Restoring bookmarks in Chrome, luckily, is not one of those difficult reversals. There is no need to panic or even be stressed out. Simply follow the above steps to get back your original bookmarks folder.
